Next-Gen Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

Canon's EOS R5, the first of the next-generation full-frame mirrorless cameras in the company's EOS R System, will include a newly developed CMOS sensor that makes possible such advanced features as high-speed continuous shooting-up to approximately 20 fps using an electronic shutter and up to approximately 12 fps using a mechanical shutter-to facilitate shooting of athletes at sporting events and other fast-moving subjects.

8K Video Capture

In addition, the camera's 8K video capture capability will enable users to extract high-resolution still images from video footage as well as process 8K video into higher-quality 4K video, opening up new possibilities for visual expression. What's more, the EOS R5 will be the first Canon camera equipped with a high-performance coordinated image stabilization (IS) system that integrates the camera's in-body IS with IS systems on attached RF lenses. The camera will also feature dual media card slots and will support automatic transfer of image files from the device to the Canon cloud platform (to be available from early April 2020).

The featured Nano USM technology enhances video performance, especially when tracking moving subjects, by achieving accurate and silent AF. Whether shooting handheld or in poorly-lit situations, this lens ensures that pictures stay sharp and steady with up to five stops of shake correction. Engineered to cover a wide range of shooting scenarios, the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM has a minimum focusing distance of 0.69 ft./0.21m (wide) and 1.25 ft./0.38m (telephoto). This Canon RF 24-70mm also features a dust- and weather-resistant construction with a fluorine coating to protect the front and rear elements.

Nano USM Technology

Engineered to deliver smooth, high-speed, accurate, and silent AF, the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens is equipped with Canon’s Nano USM system. This diminutive chip-shaped ultrasonic motor utilizes both an STM mechanism and a ring type USM to achieve near-silent operation during still image AF and smooth movie AF.

Optical Image Stabilizer

The RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens is designed to work in combination with an Canon EOS R series camera, with both the camera and the lens sharing data to minimize camera-shake blur by five stops.

Focusing Distance

With just the turn of a zoom ring, this lens offers amazing versatility and is capable of capturing detailed and sharp images from nearly any distance. It can cover a minimum focusing distance at 0.69 ft./0.21m (wide), 1.25 ft./0.38m (telephoto), and a maximum magnification of approx. 0.30x.
