Celestron CGEM II 11" SCT GoTo Telescope

Interested in astronomy? Love Astrophysics and Cosmology? Then this telescope is just what you're looking for. Decked out in first-rate technologies, you won't believe the views you can see with the Celestron CGEM II 11" SCT GoTo Telescope. If you're going to study the stars, study them the right way.

11" Schmidt-Cassegrain Optical Tube Assembly

The Aluminum Optical Tube of the OTA contains Celestron's premium StarBright XLT coatings. The OTA includes a 2800 mm focal length (f/10), a 40 mm eyepiece (70x) and a 9x50  finderscope. The visual back can be used with 1.25" accessories like the star diagonal which provides for a more comfortable viewing position. Includes the dovetail rail compatible with the CGE mount.

CGEM II Mount

The CGEM II has a fresh, attractive, bold appearance and is capable of carrying Celestron’s higher-end SCT optical tubes securely and vibration free, which is ideal for both imaging and visual observing. Capable of holding 40 lbs. of payload and slewing at 5° per second, you will be able to instantly point to any of the celestial objects in the database.

Ergonomic Design

The CGEM II dovetail saddle accepts both the narrower Vixen/CG-5 and the wider Losmandy/CGE style dovetails. The longer clutch levers make tightening and loosening of the clutches easier giving you more access with more control. Precision machined 40 mm diameter steel Polar shafts supported by multiple tapered roller bearings and ball bearings help with heavier OTA's.

CGEM II was designed to be ergonomically friendly with large Altitude and Azimuth adjustment knobs for quick and easy polar alignment adjustment. The internal RA and DEC motor wiring provides a clean look with its internal cabling throughout for worry-free remote operation and has an easy and trouble free set up. Low cog DC Servo motor with integrated optical encoders offer a smooth and quiet operation.

The tripod has 2" diameter steel legs with height index marks for quick leveling and quick setup.

Innovation

The CGEM II series features Celestron’s innovative Polar alignment procedure called All-Star. All-Star allows users to choose any bright star, while the software calculates and assists with polar alignment. Another great feature of the CGEM II sure to please astroimagers, is the permanent Periodic Error Correction (PEC) which will allow users to train out the worm gears periodic errors, while the mount retains the PEC recordings. Software Features include: Mount Calibration, Database Filter Limits, Hibernate, five Alignment Procedures, and user-defined slew limits. The very important Tandem mode allows for star align of the mount even when positioned for tandem scope use.

USB 2.0 port on the hand control permits support of direct links to a PC via ASCOM supported software. NexRemote telescope control software also allows for advanced control of the telescope via a computer. Custom Rate 9 feature allows setting of a maximum slew rate and the mount is GPS-compatible with optional SkySync GPS Accessory (sold separately).

Performance

Solar System alignment method allows you to view the moon and planets during the day. This gives you the opportunity to see the sky at various times, under various conditions. For objects near the Meridian (imaginary line passing from North to South), the CGEM II will track well past the Meridian for uninterrupted imaging through the most ideal part of the sky. The CGEM II mount has a robust database with over 40,000 objects, 100 user defined programmable objects and enhanced information on over 200 objects. This custom database has lists of all the most famous deep-sky objects by name and catalog number for easy recognition of the night sky allowing for maximum use out of your telescope.

Celestron 11" SCT (CGE) Optical Tube Assembly

The night sky has always fascinated individuals and with good reason. The heavens are teeming with life, but sadly, most of it is not visible to the naked eye. Now with the study of Astronomy and the invention of telescopes, the moon, stars and planets are all within reach. With the right instruments, there's no telling what you might see.

The Celestron 11" SCT (CGE) Optical Tube Assembly is ideal for capturing breathtaking views of galaxies, star clusters, nebulae and planets. Celestron 11" SCT Optical Tube Assembly has a number of features that provide you with optimum light transmission and brighter, crisper images ideal for the astronomy enthusiast. The night sky is now in your hands.

Features

With an optical tube that measures 24-inches in length and weighs 27.5 pounds, this mid level optical instrument meets the demands of observers and astrogimagers who want a telescope that's more portable than a reflector or refractor. The scope offers a large 11" aperture and a long focal length of 2800 mm.

Celestron's unique StarBright XLT optical coatings dramatically increase light transmission by up to 97 percent on its Schmidt corrector lenses. Vew pinpoint stars across the largest imaging sensors in bright, crisp detail and capture breathtaking, sharp, flawless astroimages.

The 11" Schmidt-Cassegrain Optical Tube Assembly has an aluminum optical tube and comes with a 25 mm eyepiece and a visual back which allows for use with other 1.25" accessories. The 9x50 finderscope helps accurately find objects in the night sky and the star diagonal provides more comfortable viewing position when observing objects that are high in the sky. The 11" OTA includes a dovetail rail compatible with CGE Advanced Series mount.

Celestron Counterweight 17lbs for 19mm Shaft

Whether you are enhancing your mount setup or buying a replacement part, the counterweight is there to balance weight of the optical tube (OTA) and accessories on the other side of the Right Accession (RA Axis). If you add accessories to your telescope setup (ie camera, guider, etc), you may need to add additional counterweights to off-set the weight.

Improved Balance

If the balance is off on one-side or the other, it can do damage to your OTA and setup, the motor gear, and/or may have issues with tracking accuracy. You can add additional counterweights to improve the responsiveness to the system by reducing the mass inertia, though you need to make sure you space out the counterweights along the shaft to reduce damage to your setup and that it is cost-effective and worth it for your telescope setup.

Stable

This counterweight comes with a sturdy knurled knob locks to safely hold in place on the counterweight shaft. The counterweight is designed to fit 19mm counterweight shafts.
